Hello all. You may have noticed the new logo on the website! Thanks to Amanda Roegels for the new design! Musicians/bands take note, if you need any photography services, look her up!
In other news, I’ve recently been working with a group called “The Broken Okies” to mix their debut album. More on that as work progresses.
Justin Harter and I were recently in the studio at ACM recording a band called “The Groove Offensive”. The stuff is straight up rock, kind of a mix between Hendrix and Nirvana. Cool stuff! I will post it here as soon as I can.
We also started recording new music by Rachel Brasher at ACM last week. We cut the basic tracks for three songs with her and her band last Wednesday, and I have to say they sound really great. We’re back in the studio next Wednesday to put further overdubs on the songs. I can’t wait to unveil these, I really think they’re going to sound great!
I’m currently working on a large scale studio renovation project. Keep a lookout on Facebook and Twitter for updates on that with pictures! Right now I’m working on designing the sound panels in here. I have some other things in the works as well.
A couple of weeks ago, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus came to ACM, and I was lucky enough to get to spend some time on it. Even luckier, I got to contribute a small part to the song they were working on! They were working on a song with a theme centering around peace, and it was being made as a birthday gift to Yoko Ono. I took part in a session with Steven, Derrek Brown (also of The Flaming Lips) and a few other students from ACM. They were coming up with a riff to play in the song, and I they gave me a bass to play with them. I can’t tell you what a thrill it was to be sitting in the same room with two members of one of my very favorite bands, let alone playing with them! The other students were recording all kinds of samples into iPads and manipulating them in weird ways for the song. I got to participate in a bit of that. It was a lot of fun to be recording foley!
KFOR did a news story about it, which you can view here. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pics from me actually jamming the track. The closest thing is in that video towards the end… if you look behind Derrek, you can see my bald head peaking out.
Below are a few pictures I took on the bus.
The song premiered live at the lennon tour bus website with a “behind the scenes” feature. Unfortunately that isn’t featured online, but the song and video itself is at youtube. Thanks to everyone who made this experience possible!
That’s all I got for now. I have other things in development that I don’t want to write about yet because I feel it’s premature. Until next time!
